TRAVEL
Maria's love for people and travel has led her to several international destinations.  She went to South Africa in 2000 with the People to People Ambassador Program.  This was a health care exchange consisting of 21 health care delegates from the USA to discuss managed care and for the exchange of ideas relevant to the sites we visited.

China in 2007, as a result of reuniting a workers' compensation claimant to his family to reintegrate him back into his community.  The individual had sustained a TBI, was in a persistent vegetative state from which he awakened after 15 months.  The care coordination post awakening to re-evaluate the medical status,  implement a comprehensive rehab plan and neuropsychological testing resulted in successfully establishing that he did not need to spend the rest of his life in a long-term care facility.  It was his desire to return to China, and we facilitated this intervention.  The cost savings just on the long term care facility was $16,000 per month.  The outcome was a win-win to both the claimant (reunited with his family) and the carrier (lifetime savings of long-term care).

Bhutan in 2011, the land where the GDP is measured in Happiness.  The purpose of this trip was to further deepen her understanding of the contemplative traditions and a country in which the Happiness of its people is a serious matter.

Other travel has included France, Italy, Peru, Thailand, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent's,  St. John's and through out the USA!
